FOR US SUSTAINABILITY IS ABOUT CREATING SPACES FOR PEOPLE TO BRING POSITIVE GLOBAL CHANGE.
This our sustainability commitment.
The 2016 Paris Agreement was a landmark in human history. In principle the world agreed that conrtinued investment in non-renewables is no longer sustainable. Environmental, social and economic factors are finally integral to evaluating performance of organisations. At StartInno environmental, social and economic outcomes are not only embodied in our coworking hub, but are also delivered through our Incubator and Accelerator programs. We love working with startups where sustainability is central to business strategy.
POWERED BY RENEWABLE ENERGY
Both 100 Mile Table and the StartInno Hub recently moved to local community energy provider Enova Energy. Enova guarantees 50% of our total electricity comes from renewable resources, they other 50% from local providers. It's a little more expensive than non-renewable providors, but we think it's worth it.

Its not been a secret that our friends at 100 Mile Table downstairs have always promoted the idea of "locavores" meaning a focus on local food for local people (all within 100 miles). That doesn't always mean sourcing local is always achievable, but in line with BCorp guidelines, most of our suppliers are local. The majority of our furnishings and fittings for example are made but local suppliers, but we are always looking for more innovations to disrupt the mainstream.
One of our favourite examples is Open Desk. Our Board Room table design was licensed through Open Desk, then made using a locally sourced (in fact just around the corner) CNC machine-maker. This means that not only, like our other furnishings, do we get to use Australian materials but also it is made in our local community reducing the need for expensive shipping. This is a big challenger to dominant corporates who specialise in flat-packing like Ikea. Many major coworking spaces such as the amazing WeWork among major adopters.
RECYCLING, UPCYCLING & WASTE PROGRAM
Like any office, the Coworking Hub is deeply concious about the amount of Waste we produce. As such we formally adopt the principles and practices of our friends at BCorp. Although we don't supply electronic equipment, we do support our community disposing of e-Waste appropriately (we no longer use Printer Cartridges for example). The fabulous folks from Compost Central, one of our Incubator Program graduates and alumi, have also taught us a lot about "Upcycling", that is, the repurposing materials which would otherwise be discarded into landfill. The egg-carton Skype-booths are a great example of this.

THE CONSCIOUS BUSINESS
Our great friend and leading expert in sustainable environments, Alistair Coulstock has recently launched his new book "The conscious business - How to achieve purpose with profit: Re-evaluating priorities in your life and business". The book has been written for three groups of people: the entrepreneurs of the world looking to set up in business, existing business owners who are wanting to attain real success, or intrapreneurs not satisfied with their current employer’s modus operandi.
